Sound

For this ambient track, it started as a song by Lil’ Wayne called Don’t Cry featuring the late rapper, XXXtentacion. The entire song consists of different rhythms and patterns that catches anyones attention especially when XXXtentacion is singing in the chorus of the song. His unique style and ability to carry a tune runs smoothly with the beat of the music. I decided to pick a portion of the chorus where he is singing the words “Don’t cry” and I decided to Paulstretch it out to 25 seconds. In the song, XXXtentacion is dragging these words out originally at a much faster pace but I decided to extend it even more using an audio software called Audacity. Lastly, I decided to add a picture of the late rapper, XXXtentacion, in order to honor his great work for rap music and to be able to listen closely to the ambience of the song. After going step by step with this process and finally hearing the final product it feels like you are stuck in a trance and literally cannot miss a beat of this ambient tune. It is almost a great escape within your own mind.
The Sound Salad process was way more complex and detailed than the ambient track. This process consisted of more of a cognitive process for creativity and focusing on specifics. For this final product, I started off by searching for four distinct sounds, which consisted of acoustics, vocals, an electronic sound and noised-based samples. Each four sounds that are heard is police sirens, alien themed music, yodeling from Mason Ramsey and the clashing of pots and pans. My recipe for this was to separate all the four sounds and then I would cut from each sound and put it all together onto one stereo track. There are sounds that come on quicker than others due to cutting the sounds into smaller blocks on the track. A few sounds I have duplicated to make it sound like “a broken record” to make it a bit dramatic to the ear. Also, to prevent the Sound Salad to be repetitive, I have cut of certain sounds so it would not play all the way and take the other portion of the sound and place it randomly on the track. Lastly, I enjoyed creating the Sound Salad because it is something that I have never done before and it was quite an experience.
