The Multimedia Happening

The Multimedia Happening performance occurred on November 21, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Florida Atlantic University’s Davie campus.

To begin with, the Multimedia Happening performance was quite the experience! In this performance we have performed three pieces that consisted of our physical and vocal action. The three pieces that were performed were Karawane created by Hugo Ball, Blue Hammer Vocal Ambience #1 and Civil Discourse created by Prof. Joey Bargsten. My initial impressions of this performance was that this activity was something different that I have never participated in before. This performance has opened my eyes up to the variety of aspects that art consists of. My contributions to this performance was one for the books as for the first time ever I have officially became a table artist that was performed in the Civil Discourse. The ambient sounds of the table scraping and sliding against the wooden floor was a contribution to the performance. Also, I have participated in reciting the sound poem Karawane as my peers and I stood in a circle around the camera to capture our attention grabbing performance. However, there are experimental art movements, trends and artists that have been intentionally referenced throughout our performance. Video Jamming/Visualism, sound artist Hugo Ball, and the trend of data mosh were all implemented into our performance. The video jamming/visualism consisted of motion visuals from a live performance that are created and manipulated through sound. It is also known as VJing, which is the live triggering and manipulation of visual content that is reactive to the intensity of the environment and ambiance. German sound poet, Hugo Ball, was the leader of the Dada movement where he exemplified the Dada movement’s ironic, playful but serious critique of the Western culture. Data mosh was also an important factor within our performance that was referenced as well, which included the role of manipulating the data of media files in order to achieve visual and auditory effects. All these components were essential to our performance and allowed us to create a visual and auditory masterpiece!
